DESCRIPTION
Everyone, who played Quixo at least once, has a very strong feeling that this game is just like „noughts and crosses”, only bigger, better and without the most significant drawback of its prototype – draw is impossible!
The goal is to put five of your pieces in a row, vertically, horizontally or diagonally – just like in noughts and crosses.
Before the game starts you need to prepare the game board. The wooden game board should be placed on a table or any other stable surface, and then 25 pieces have to be placed on the board. Each piece has two symbols – a cross and a circle – marked on two of its faces. Initially, all the pieces have to be turned the blank face up. Make a toss-up or drawing to select the player, who will start the game.
During the game the player has to choose one of the pieces on the board and turn it over in order to have his symbol (circle or cross) on top, then puts the piece back on the game board, but in a different place and finally slides one of the rows to cover the empty place. The piece cannot be put back to its original place.
You cannot also turn over the pieces already claimed by your opponent, only your own or neutral pieces can be played.
In order to win, you not only need to put five pieces in a row, but also you have to inform your opponent about this. Funny? Absolutely not! It often happens that if player does not pay enough attention to what is happening on the board, he often overlooks a winning situation.
You can also play Quixo in two-person teams. But then the game becomes really wacky!
Quixo was claimed the game of the year 2005 by Games Magazine and by MENSA. The game was awarded many prestigious prizes in France (Mention Specialle Oscar Du Jouet France, As D'Or Du Jeu France) and was chosen by parents in the United States as the best game for their children.
